AUSTIN, Texas— Today, Texas Land Commissioner and Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham, M.D., is pleased to announce that applications are being accepted for potential future residents at the new state-of-the-art Tuskegee Airmen Texas State Veterans Home (TSVH) in Fort Worth. The home, which opened its doors in March 2025, is the VLB’s 10th long-term care home for eligible Veterans, spouses, and Gold Star Parents in Texas.
The Fort Worth Veterans home is named after the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African American combat flying support program in the United States Armed Forces. These pilots served during World War II and completed over 15,000 missions across North Africa and Europe. These brave men also received over 150 Distinguished Flying Cross awards, 60 Purple Hearts, and the Congressional Gold Medal.
This new Veterans home is 100,000 square feet and can serve 120 Veterans. The Tuskegee Airmen TSVH has 72 comfortable rooms, 24 of which are private. Like the VLB’s other Veterans homes, this facility boasts a specialized memory support neighborhood that can support 30 residents with memory-care needs. Also, like VLB’s nine other Veterans homes, eligible Veterans with a 70% or more service-connected disability rating will live in the home at no cost.
The Tuskegee Airmen TSVH is divided into four "neighborhoods," and each neighborhood includes living/media/library spaces, dining areas, hospitality stations for self-serve beverages and snacks, a quiet room, a screened patio with ceiling fans, and an open garden area. The home also offers a wide variety of therapy and class options, such as art, exercise, music, gardening, yoga/meditation, pet therapy, and regular musical performances. Daily activities and weekend events, such as football parties and military celebrations, outings to museums, Walmart, restaurants, and sporting events, are also provided to all residents.
Our State Veterans Homes are Texas-owned and regulated by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The VLB has an on-site representative in each home to ensure our distinguished long-term residents get the best possible care.
Located in the Fort Worth area, the Tuskegee Airmen TSVH will service a tightly knit community with a long history of championing Veterans.
