Boggy Bayou Nature Park Shoreline Protection and Restoration-Phase 2

Project Description

Boggy Bayou Nature Park is located on the western shoreline of Matagorda Bay in Calhoun County, north of Port O’Connor, TX. This county park is open daily to the public. Visitors enjoy outdoor recreational activities such as fishing, bird watching, kayaking and hiking. The park shoreline is approximately 3,700 feet long. Shoreline change analysis has quantified the erosion rate from 1989 to 2018, indicating the shoreline has retreated as much as 300 feet in some areas of the project site. Long-term analysis of the shoreline indicates the erosion rate is as high as 12 feet per year, particularly closer to the main inlet. This project was Phase 2 of an ongoing study being conducted to reduce and mitigate for the observed erosion at Boggy Bayou and will include development of all the necessary bid package components.
