San Luis Pass Inlet Management Study - Phase 3 (post-Ike)

Project Description

This project conducted an environmental assessment and obtained a USACE permit for the use sediment from the San Luis Pass flood delta, which has been lost from the littoral system, to nourish beaches, reestablish dunes and restore other natural resources such as wetlands. Management of the sand resources in the San Luis flood delta will be of great value to adjacent shorelines by reducing erosion and can be used as a renewable source. While locations for potential sand borrow sites have been preliminarily identified, an environmental assessment of the proposed dredging project will need to be undertaken to determine if any adverse environmental impacts will occur.
