ABILENE — Today, Texas Veterans Land Board Chairman George P. Bush announced that on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. SHARP, the Rio Grande Valley Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Mission will conduct an Unaccompanied Veteran burial for SP4 Applegate. Born on October 3, 1944, Mr. Edward R. Applegate served in the United States Army from August 19, 1965 to July 31, 1967. SP4 Edward Applegate received a National Defense Service Medal during his time in the United States Army. He also received the Driver's Badge and Expert Rifle Badge.
Mr. Applegate is not expected to have anyone attend his burial. Please help us spread the word and ensure that our United States Army Veteran is not buried alone. Members of the Mission community are encouraged to attend.
Applegate will receive full military honors. If no next-of-kin is present at the burial, the On-Site Representative of the Veterans Land Board will accept the United States flag on Applegate's behalf.
The Texas Veterans Land Board works with the local community and fellow Veterans service organizations to ensure that NO Veteran is EVER left behind.
