OVER 5,484 POUNDS OF TRASH COLLECTED AT ANNUAL ADOPT-A-BEACH COASTAL BEND WINTER CLEANUP
CORPUS CHRISTI — On February 8th, 2020, over 350 volunteers participated in the 2020 Annual Adopt-A-Beach Coastal Bend Winter Cleanup and worked together to clean a total of 31.5 miles of beach and bay area. With over 2.74 tons, or 5,484 pounds of trash collected, our Texas beaches are once again clean and beautiful for wildlife and the community alike to enjoy.
Some odd items found in the cleanup include a tire, a TV remote, a whole watermelon, bullets, nerdles (micro plastic), and a freezer.
The next coast-wide cleanup will take place April 18, 2020. Volunteers can find more information at www.texasadoptabeach.organd are encouraged to take part in a fun-filled day of giving back to our community and taking care of the Texas coast.
The Texas General Land Office Adopt-A-Beach program began in the fall of 1986, when 2,800 volunteers picked up 124 tons of trash. Since then, more than 540,000 volunteers have removed 9,700 tons of trash from Texas beaches. Each volunteer is given data cards, gloves, pencils and trash bags. The Texas General Land Office Adopt-A-Beach cleanups are held rain or shine!
Texans who are not able to attend the cleanup can help keep our beaches clean by making a tax-deductible donation online at www.TexasAdoptABeach.org. There are several different Adopt-A-Beach sponsorship levels ranging from $25 to $25,000, allowing both individuals and corporations to contribute to this major cleanup effort.
