ROUND ROCK — Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush taught an interactive economics lesson at Cedar Ridge High School. Today’s visit is the first of his “Year of Energy” initiative, in which Commissioner Bush will be visiting schools with robust workforce readiness programs and talking with teachers and administrators who participate in preparing the next generation of Texas leaders.
As one of the largest financiers of public schools in Texas, the Texas General Land Office (GLO) realizes that the quality of our education systems is paramount to our state’s success.
“I am honored to have kicked off the GLO's 2020 ‘Year of Energy’ with students, teachers and leaders at Cedar Ridge High School,” saidCommissioner George P. Bush. Last year, I made 50 education visits throughout the state to learn what the GLO can do to meet the needs of the classroom. This year, I am excited to see how important workforce readiness programs are for a comprehensive education. Whether it’s in an office or the oil field, our students will encounter unique challenges and should receive an education with hands on opportunities and real world experiences. Cedar Ridge has done an excellent job preparing students in whatever field their interest may be - the future has never looked brighter for Texas.”
In Ms. Susan Highfield’s 7th period economic class, Commissioner Bush discussed how our state’s energy is produced, the history of Texas’ oil boom and especially, how students who are interested can prepare for a future in this field. He then toured the school's workforce readiness facility and program.
