AUSTIN — Today, the Texas General Land Office announced that registration for the Annual Adopt-A-Beach Spring Coastwide Cleanup will begin Friday, March 5, 2021. Volunteers are encouraged to sign up for the cleanup scheduled to occur on Saturday, April 17, 2021. The Texas GLO Adopt-A-Beach Spring Cleanup will take place at 21 different locations across the Texas coastline. Volunteers can sign up at www.texasadoptabeach.org to take part in a fun-filled day of giving back to our community and taking care of our Texas coast.

“The Texas coast has given generations of Texans a family friendly site for recreation and provides a critical habitat for our wildlife,” said Commissioner George P. Bush. “As Texans, we take tremendous pride in keeping our coastline clean and accessible to the public. The Annual Adopt-A-Beach Spring Cleanup is an excellent opportunity our communities to come together and help preserve our state’s environment for years to come. I am always amazed at the commitment from Texans to keep our coast clean.”

The Texas General Land Office Adopt-A-Beach program began in the fall of 1986, when 2,800 volunteers picked up 124 tons of trash.  Since then, more than 551,000 volunteers have removed more than 10,000 tons of trash from Texas beaches. Each volunteer will be given data cards, gloves, pencils and trash bags. All volunteers are advised to wear closed-toe shoes, bring sunscreen and plenty of drinking water. The Texas General Land Office Adopt-A-Beach cleanups are held rain or shine!

Texans who are not able to attend the cleanup can help keep our beaches clean by making a tax-deductible donation online at www.TexasAdoptABeach.org. There are several different Adopt-A-Beach sponsorship levels ranging from $25 to $25,000, allowing both individuals and corporations to contribute to this major cleanup effort.
