Texas General Land Office Awards $6 Million for Projects Across Seven Coastal Counties

REMINDER: Sign Up to Participate in the 2023 Adopt-A-Beach Coastwide Spring Cleanup

Today, Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham M.D. encouraged all friends of Texas beaches to join her and participate in the 2023 Adopt-A-Beach Coastwide Spring Cleanup on Saturday, April 22nd. Commissioner Buckingham Announces Derelict Vessel Turn-In Event: Orange County

Today, Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D. announced that the Texas General Land Office (GLO) is partnering with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and Orange County to provide the residents of Orange County with a free event to dispose of inoperable vessels. The Vessel Turn-In Program (VTIP) will take place April 18, 20, 22, 25, 27, and 29 from 10 am to 6 pm. During the multi-day turn-in event, residents may bring their derelict or inoperable boats to the designated drop-off location to be verified by the GLO and TPWD for eligibility. Commissioner Buckingham Announces the Results of the 2023 Adopt-A-Beach Winter Cleanups

27th Annual “Treasures of the Texas Coast” Children’s Art Contest

AUSTIN—Today, Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D. kicked off the 27th Annual Treasures of the Texas Coast Children’s Art Contest, which is facilitated through the Texas General Land Office’s (GLO) Adopt-A-Beach Program. All Texas students, public, private, and homeschooled, in kindergarten through sixth grade are encouraged to send in their masterpieces. Artwork should be based on the theme “Treasures of the Texas Coast” and should depict why the Texas coast is important or special to the student. Read More


Four-Day Derelict Vessel Turn-In Event: Brazoria County

BRAZORIA COUNTY—Today, Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D. announced that the Texas General Land Office (GLO) is partnering with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), Brazoria County, and the Brazoria County Fire Fighters Association to provide the residents of Brazoria County with a free event to dispose of inoperable vessels. GLO AND USACE GRANT 30-DAY EXTENSION OF COASTAL TEXAS STUDY PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD

The Texas General Land Office (GLO) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) have extended the public comment period for the Coastal Texas Study by an additional 30 days to allow public stakeholders and the local community more time to comment on the Draft Report. The Coastal Texas Study Draft Report was initially released on Oct. 30, 2020, and was open for a 45-day public review and comment period ending on Dec.14, 2020.  The new end date for the comment period will be Jan. UPCOMING VESSEL TURN-IN PROGRAM IN GALVESTON COUNTY

The Texas General Land Office (GLO) is partnering with Galveston County and Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) to offer community members the opportunity to remove inoperable and derelict vessels through the “Vessel Turn-In Program.”Designed to provide owners with a voluntary method of disposal, interested boat owners are encouraged to participate if the vessel is less than 26 feet long, with longer boats being accepted on a case by case basis. The vessel may be delivered to the drop off point upon approved for disposal.
