Disaster Recovery

The Disaster Recovery Reallocation Program (DRRP) is designed to utilize de-obligated and unutilized funds to provide the opportunity for communities with outstanding unmet need to access remaining CDBG-DR funds.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) issued an allocation of $43,632,000 in Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funding to the State of Texas in response to the 2021 Winter Storms (DR-4586) with an incident date of February 11-21, 2021.

On December 3, 2019, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) issued an initial allocation of $212,741,000 in Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funding. On January 6, 2021, HUD announced an additional allocation of $14,769,000, bringing the total allocation to $227,510,000.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) issued an initial allocation of $46,400,000 in Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funding for Cameron, Hidalgo, and Jim Wells Counties in response to significant flooding in 2018. On December 3, 2019, HUD announced an additional allocation of $26,513,000, bringing the total allocation to $72,913,000.

Through multiple appropriations from Congress, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has allocated more than $5.676 billion in Community Development Block Grants for Disaster Recovery funds.

The 2016 flooding from March to June resulted in three qualifying events for federal disaster recovery funds.

In 2015, Texas had two separate events that qualified for disaster recovery funding. Both events resulted from heavy rains and winds that caused severe damage across nearly half the state, or 134,000 square miles.
