CMR BUSH ANNOUNCES LIVING SHORELINE WORKSHOPS ALONG THE COAST

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the Texas General Land Office (GLO), in partnership with Allen Engineering and Science, will offer a series of workshops on the use of living shorelines. These shorelines serve as alternatives to traditional erosion prevention landscaping along the coast. The workshops will be held on Tuesday, July 30 in Corpus Christi, Tuesday, August 6 in Victoria and Thursday, August 8 in Texas City. Read More


Cmr. Bush announces results of 2019 Coastal Spring Cleanup

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the results of the 2019 Coastal Spring Cleanup. “The dedication of our community to do more for the environment and the Texas coast is extraordinary,” said Commissioner George P. Bush. “Despite the threat of storms, 4,371 volunteers joined together and removed 47,009 pounds of trash from 143 miles of beaches and bays. North Padre Island and Padre Island National Seashore Adopt-A-Beach Cleanup Canceled

Following the drowning of a King High School student on Whitecap Beach, the Texas General Land Office has announced the cancelation of Saturday’s cleanup for the neighboring Padre Island National Seashore and North Padre Island/Padre Balli Park beaches. As authorities attempt to recover the body, the General Land Office has determined that it is in the best interest of our volunteers and the community to cancel the cleanup. Our thoughts are with the King High School family during this difficult time. All other clean up locations will remain in operation unless previously noted. Read More

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the 23rd Annual Adopt-A-Beach "Treasures of the Texas Coast" Children's Art Contest winners. This year, over 3,900 students entered their artwork. The grand prize winner, selected from the 40 overall winners, was Grace Wimberley, a 5th grader at Saint Mary School in Orange, TX.“Adopt-A-Beach is more than simply volunteering to clean up the Texas coast.
