TEXAS GENERAL LAND OFFICE AWARDED CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION & RESILIENCE BUSINESS ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

The Texas General Land Office (GLO) in conjunction with AECOM engineering was awarded the Climate Change Adaptation & Resilience Business Achievement Award by the Climate Change Business Journal (CCBJ). OVER 5,484 POUNDS OF TRASH COLLECTED AT ANNUAL ADOPT-A-BEACH COASTAL BEND WINTER CLEANUP

On February 8th, 2020, over 350 volunteers participated in the 2020 Annual Adopt-A-Beach Coastal Bend Winter Cleanup and worked together to clean a total of 31.5 miles of beach and bay area. With over 2.74 tons, or 5,484 pounds of trash collected, our Texas beaches are once again clean and beautiful for wildlife and the community alike to enjoy.Some odd items found in the cleanup include a tire, a TV remote, a whole watermelon, bullets, nerdles (micro plastic), and a freezer.The next coast-wide cleanup will take place April 18, 2020. OVER 2,600 POUNDS OF TRASH COLLECTED AT ANNUAL ADOPT-A-BEACH SOUTH PADRE ISLAND WINTER CLEANUP

On February 7th, over 300 volunteers participated in the 2020 Annual Adopt-A-Beach South Padre Island Winter Cleanup and worked together to clean a total of 3 miles of beach and bay area. With over 1.31 tons, or 2,620 pounds of trash collected, our Texas beaches are once again clean and beautiful for wildlife and the community alike to enjoy. Special thanks to SPI Kats who gave away door prizes from local businesses, Schlitterbahn Waterpark for providing hot chocolate and H-E-B Port Isabel for providing orange juice, donuts and bottled water. 2020 TREASURES OF THE TEXAS COAST CHILDREN'S ART CONTEST

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced that the 2020 Treasures of the Texas Coast Children's Art Contest is now open for entries. Artwork should be based on the theme “Treasures of the Texas Coast” and depict why the Texas coast is important or special to the participating student. VLB TO HOST TEXAS VETERANS BENEFITS FAIR IN HUMBLE ON FEBRUARY 15TH

A free “come and go” benefits fair for Texas Veterans will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 15, 2019, at the Humble Civic Center. The fair, targeting all area Veterans, military members and their families, is one of several held throughout the state in 2020.Officials from the Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) will be on hand to provide information on state programs including land, home and home improvement loans, as well as Texas State Veterans Homes and Cemeteries for Veterans and military members in Texas. Today, the Texas General Land Office (GLO) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced the upcoming dates and locations for a series of Public Open Houses on the Coastal Texas Study. The Coastal Texas Protection & Restoration Feasibility Study, or the Coastal Texas Study, is a comprehensive draft proposal to examine the feasibility of construction projects for coastal storm risk management and ecosystem restoration along the Texas coast. EVIDENCE OF BURIALS DISCOVERED IN MONKS BURIAL ROOM AND NAVE OF ALAMO CHURCH

Today, the Texas General Land Office (GLO) and the Alamo Mission Archaeological Advisory Committee released statements following the identification of three burials during archeological exploration of the Monks Burial Room and Nave of the Alamo Church.   The purpose of archeology inside and around the Alamo Church and Long Barrack is to install moisture monitoring equipment as well as locate and document the foundations of the 300 year old structures.
