Today, Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D. announced the results of the 2024 Adopt-A-Beach Coastwide Fall Cleanup on Saturday, September 28, 2024. Today, Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D. submitted a second letter opposing the Biden-Harris Administration's third proposal for an offshore wind energy lease. The new proposal, spearheaded by the Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), is to lease approximately 142,528 acres directly to Hecate Energy Gulf Wind LLC.This latest proposal follows the cancellation of the larger Gulf of Mexico Wind Auction 2 due to a lack of commercial interest. Today, Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D. announced the approval of the Coastal Erosion Planning & Response Act (CEPRA) funding for the final phase of the Adolph Thomae Jr. County Park Shoreline Protection project.The fifth and final phase of the project proposes to stabilize 2,940 linear feet of eroding shoreline by the construction of a living shoreline (habitat bench) and a rip rap breakwater that was initially designed and permitted during Phase 3 of the project.
