Project Description
The proposed project goals are to protect up to 3,530 feet of eroding shoreline, restore up to 25 acres of intertidal marsh complex and protect up to 250 acres of wetland habitat that is part of the Brazoria NWR. The project is located in Brazoria County along severely eroding shoreline between Oyster Lake and West Bay. Wind driven waves have impacted the shoreline with severe erosion and resulted in vegetation and soil losses. It is estimated that since 1944, up to 650 feet of shoreline has been lost on the West Bay side and 150 feet from the Oyster Lake side of the project shoreline. Furthermore, the rate of erosion appears to be more extreme in recent years, as just since 1995, up to 175 feet of shoreline has been lost on West Bay side and 55 feet from Oyster Lake side. An USACE permit, SWG-2012-00679, was issued June 10, 2022. GLO lease SL20120046 was executed February 9, 2023. Both are included in the supplemental information and still valid for the project site. GBF holds a TPWD Aquatic Plants Introduction Permit for various sites around the Bay that is updated annually, this project site is already included on the permit. No further permitting is required for this project.
