Moody NWR Shoreline Protection Construction Project

Project Description

The project will construct 3 segments of nature-based shoreline protection structures totaling approximately 1.74 miles (9,173 LF) to prevent marsh loss, restore emergent marsh along the shoreline, and create oyster habitat in East Bay adjacent to Moody NWR in Chambers County, Texas. In addition to shoreline stabilization benefits, the project will benefit approximately 2,000 acres of wetlands (including Lake Surprise and Wallis Lake) and other inland coastal habitats at Moody NWR and will create approximately 5 acres of additional submerged and emergent hard substrate for oyster colonization in state public waters.
