Cohn Preserve Final Design Project

Project Description

This is a continuation of the CEPRA cycle 12 project #1728 to design a protective structure at TNC’s Cohn Preserve. The structure will not only protect the Preserve’s shoreline but also stabilize or fill the breach that has developed along the structure and put the inland lagoon’s habitats in danger of erosion. The project is critical to protect hundreds of acres of seagrass meadow located landward of the project shoreline in Croaker Hole, a popular fishing destination in the region. Marsh mosaic and seagrass meadows are protected by the Cohn Preserve shoreline, which buffers erosive forces from Corpus Christi Bay. Further loss of this shoreline through widening of the breach impacts seagrass, salt marsh, and coastal prairie on the bay side of Mustang Island. The project will complete final design for shoreline protection and restoration along the Cohn property shoreline.
