RULES
1. Artwork should be based on the theme "Treasures of the Texas Coast" and depict why the Texas coast is important or special to the student.
2. Artwork MUST be original to the student and created without the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools. The horizontal or vertical (horizontal is preferred) drawing or painting should measure approximately 8 ½ x 11 inches and not include a mat or border. Entries must not be framed, under glass, or have a protective covering attached to the art.
3. All entries MUST have a completed parental/guardian release form signed by a parent and the student must personally sign their Pledge of Originality. If the form is submitted without both signatures, it will be disqualified. Use a clear glue stick or tape the form to the BACK of the artwork. Do not staple or paper clip the form as it damages the artwork.
4. Acceptable art media are paint (acrylic, watercolor or oil paints), colored pencil, colored markers, ink, crayon, and chalk or fixed pastel. Collages, computer printouts, photography, or photocopies are not eligible. Nothing may be glued, stapled or attached to the front of the artwork in any way. For display purposes, colorful entries are preferred. No use of company logos, product brands, or store names. Any entries with use of such will be disqualified. Only one entry per student is allowed.
5. Winners will be announced in mid-April and prizes will be distributed by June. Ten entries from each category will be selected for awards. Winners will be determined by a panel of judges. Judging will be based on originality, creativity and consistency with the theme "Treasures of the Texas Coast."
6. Damaged, late, or previously entered artwork is not eligible. The General Land Office’s (GLO) determination regarding lost, damaged, late, or previously entered artwork will be final.
7. All artwork becomes property of the GLO. Winners and their parents/guardians agree to the GLO's use of their artwork and names to promote the Adopt-A-Beach Program. Artist credit will be given.
8. We recommend you make a color photocopy of the artwork prior to mailing it to the GLO.
9. Household family members of GLO employees are not eligible.
10. All taxes on prizes are the sole responsibility of the prize winner.
11. The contest is void where prohibited.
12. All entries must be postmarked by Wednesday, March 5, 2025.
