AUSTIN— Today, Texas Land Commissioner and Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham, M.D., is honored to share the overwhelming success of the VLB's Valentines for Vets program for Valentine's Day 2025. This year, VLB's 10 Texas State Veterans Homes received approximately 37,997 Valentine's Day cards and letters through this incredible program – setting a record for the largest card donation to date.
"As Chairwoman of the VLB, one of my most crucial responsibilities is caring for the men and women who selflessly served our nation,” said Commissioner Buckingham. “The VLB's Valentines for Vets program harnesses the power of community to remind our Veterans that they are appreciated and loved through thousands of Valentine's cards and letters each year. Since the program began in 2021, VLB's Texas State Veterans Homes have received over 60,000 Valentine's cards and letters from Texans and people across the country. This year, our Veterans Homes received nearly 38,000 cards, the program's largest card donation and more than double last year's count! I encourage all Texans to show gratitude for our phenomenal Veterans and their sacrifices each Valentine's Day and year-round."

The Watkins-Logan Texas State Veterans Home in Tyler, Texas, received an astounding 13,375 cards for Valentine's Day.

The Tuskegee Airman Texas State Veterans Home in Fort Worth was sent 300 cards even though residents have not yet moved into the brand-new facility.
