AUSTIN, Texas— Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D., gathered with local officials this week to celebrate the Topping Out Ceremony for the Texas Cavaliers Education Center, a state-of-the-art facility that promises every Texas schoolchild, no matter where they come from, will have a place to interact personally with the story of Texas.

"The Alamo is a sacred place where history, sacrifice, and pride come together to tell the powerful story of our Texas independence. Educating our kids about our state’s rich history is vital, and at the Texas Cavaliers Alamo Education Center, every Texas schoolchild will be able to learn about Texas’s loud and proud, liberty-loving, line in the sand history, which binds us all," said Commissioner Buckingham. "No matter where our journey begins — our heritage or our hometown — all roads in Texas lead to a place of honor: the Shrine of Texas Liberty.”

Commissioner Buckingham joined various community leaders, students, and elected officials for the milestone event, which featured a ceremonial beam signing by fourth-grade students from James Madison Elementary, followed by the raising of the final construction beam.

The Texas Cavaliers Education Center, which broke ground in 2023 and will open in 2026, will serve as a formal learning center where schoolchildren will experience the history of the Alamo like never before. The center will feature a welcome theater, breakout classrooms, and hands-on learning opportunities both inside the building and throughout the outdoor grounds for kids of all ages.
