UNACCOMPANIED VETERAN BURIAL TO BE HELD AT THE RIO GRANDE VALLEY STATE VETERANS CEMETERY

Today, Texas Veterans Land Board Chairman George P. Bush announced that on Thursday, May 16th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. SHARP, the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission, Texas will conduct an Unaccompanied Veteran burial for PFC David Wilson Tarbell. Born in September of 1922, Tarbell served in the United States Army Air Forces from 1942 - 1945.Tarbell is not expected to have anyone attend his funeral. WATKINS-LOGAN TEXAS STATE VETERANS HOME MEMORIAL DAY EVENT

The Watkins-Logan Texas State Veterans Home is pleased to invited the community to a Memorial Day event, Monday, May 27th, honoring those who gave their lives for our country while on active duty.  Attendance is estimated to be around 200 -300. The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. followed by a BBQ banquet catered by Bodacious BBQ in Lindale, TX. MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY AND LUNCHEON

On Friday, May 24th, the Ambrosio Guillen Texas State Veterans Home will host a special Memorial Day event honoring those who gave their lives for our country while on active duty. Residents, family members, staff and guests will join together for a formal ceremony followed by a luncheon. Around 250 individuals are expected to attend this remembrance ceremony. Colonel Jeff Burnsed will deliver keynote remarks during the observance. VLB TO HOST TEXAS VETERANS BENEFITS FAIR IN HOUSTON ON MAY 11TH

A free “come and go” benefits fair for Texas Veterans will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2019, at the Houston Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center. The fair, targeting all area Veterans, military members and their families, is one of several held throughout the state in 2019. Officials from the Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) will be on hand to provide information on state programs including land, home and home improvement loans, as well as Texas State Veterans Homes and Cemeteries for Veterans and military members in Texas. Bush announced that on Friday, April 19th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. SHARP, the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas will conduct an Unaccompanied Veteran burial for SP4 William Robert Nagel. Nagel served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968 and held the rank, SP4.Nagel is not expected to have anyone attend his funeral. Veterans at Frank M. Tejeda Texas State Veteran Home receive Thrill of Flight experience

On Tuesday, April 16th, 2019 the Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation will be taking three Air Force Veterans from Frank M. Tejeda Texas State Veterans Home up in the air to experience the thrill of flight by riding in the cockpit of a Boeing Stearman, the airplane used to train military aviators in the late thirties and forties.Three Air Force Veterans including a very special 100 year old Air Force Veteran, will fly with the Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation out of the San Antonio Stinson Municipal Airport from approximately 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. next week.
