Since 1991, the Texas General Land Office has worked diligently to protect valuable coastal resources while supporting the state’s petrochemical industry. Oil Spill’s mission is simple:
Educate Prevent Respond
The Oil Spill program participates in outreach opportunities suitable for all ages and audiences - the general public, maritime industry, and the Oil Spill regulated community. Teams share the valuable message that even one drop of oil can be hazardous to fish and marine life in delicate ecosystems.
Programs such as Operation Scupper Plug are available at participating marinas along the coast to assist recreational vessel owners with safe fueling practices. Be sure to secure vessel scuppers every time you gas up to go out on the water. Bilge Reclamation Facilities are also available to the public to prevent oily bilge waste from entering coastal water.
The Vessel Turn In Program offers opportunities to relinquish unwanted vessels at no charge, thanks to partnerships with local governments, organizations and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
