Tuesday, December 3, the Alfredo Gonzalez Texas State Veterans Home will host a 100th birthday celebration for Veterans Land Board resident, Mrs. Janice Bradley at 3:00 p.m.
Born in Ozana, Texas, Janice Bradley devoted her early years to investing in our student’s education as a high school teacher. As the war broke out, Janice enlisted in the military in 1942. She was assigned to the 1040th Army Air Force Base Unit as a Medical Laboratory Technician and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant. In 1945, she was honorably discharged.
The celebration will include the presentation of a proclamation by Mayor Mario Garza of San Juan, Texas where Janice called home prior to moving to the Alfredo Gonzalez Texas State Veterans Home. In addition, a proclamation from the Governor, a United States Capitol flag and commemorative certificate from Senator Ted Cruz, a congratulatory certificate from Commissioner George P. Bush and other special recognitions will also be presented.
Janice Bradley has received over 300 cards from over 30 states including several hand-made cards from children attending local schools nearby Alfredo Gonzalez Texas State Veterans Home as part of her request for 100 birthday letters to help her celebrate her centennial birthday. The birthday cards will be on display throughout the celebration and many will be read aloud by various Veterans organizations members, including American Legion Post 37.
For the special occasion, birthday cake and commemorative caps will be provided by Jose Narvaez of the Marine Corps League and all residents and staffers will dress in camouflage shirts.
