On Wednesday, February 6 th , the Watkins-Logan Texas State Veterans Home will host a 100 th birthday party at 5:30pm for one of their residents, Mrs. Leola Shamburger.
In 2013, Mrs. Shamburger moved into Watkins-Logan Texas State Veterans Home after the passing of her husband, US Army Staff Sargent Thomas Jefferson (T.J.) and became a matriarch immediately. One of few women living at the Home, she is held in high esteem, and her advice and conversation is often sought after by both Veterans and staff.
“Lolo is the personification of practicality with a touch of elegance. She could be comfortable dining with the president of the United States and she could be just as comfortable serving or eating with the poor and homeless. That might be a requirement of a true saint,” said Lena Shamburger Liedtke, Leola’s granddaughter.
In addition to her many accomplishments, Mrs. Shamburger painted a mural which is on display at The Back Porch restaurant in Winona, Texas. Mrs. Shamburger is a woman of grace, wisdom and talent.
Media is welcome to Mrs. Shamburger’s birthday party, and we ask that you RSVP so that we can facilitate your coverage of the event.
