Commissioner Buckingham Announces the 2024 Adopt-A-Beach Coastwide Spring Cleanup

Today, Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D. encouraged all Texans to sign up for the Texas General Land Office's (GLO) 2024 Texas Adopt-A-Beach Coastwide Spring Cleanup on Saturday, April 20th at 23 locations across the Texas coast.

"The outpouring of support the GLO's Adopt-A-Beach program receives from Texans and people across the nation is truly inspiring," said Commissioner Buckingham. "As a Texan who lived on the coast for over a decade, I truly cherish our state's beautiful beaches and would like to challenge all volunteers to help make this spring coastwide cleanup one of our best yet! The impact of this incredible program is made possible by the dedication of our hard-working volunteers and the generous support of our state sponsors."

Volunteers interested in participating can find information about registration and cleanup locations at the Texas Adopt-A-Beach website or show up on-site the day of to enjoy a morning filled with fun and service to the Texas coast.

Volunteers are encouraged to wear closed-toe shoes and to bring sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of drinking water. Volunteers may also want to download the Clean Swell app to track their efforts. Data submitted to the app is instantly uploaded to the Ocean Conservancy's global ocean trash database.

Texans who are not able to attend the cleanup can help keep our beaches clean by making a tax-deductible donation online at the Texas Adopt-A-Beach website . There are also several Adopt-A-Beach sponsorship levels ranging from $30 to $25,000, allowing both individuals and corporations to contribute to this major cleanup effort.

This year's state sponsors include: the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Texas Coastal Management Program, SLB, Valero, Ocean Conservancy, Flint Hills, Wild Spirt Wild Places, Sesco Cement, and MTC Management & Training Corporation.

Since the first Texas Adopt-A-Beach Cleanup in 1986, more than 574,000 Texas Adopt-A-Beach volunteers have picked up nearly 10,000 tons of trash from Texas beaches.
