Today, Texas Land Commissioner and Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham, M.D. is honored to update Texans on World War II Veteran U.S. Army Corporal Carl Reid's request to receive 100 cards for his 100th birthday on June 15th. In an incredible outpouring of support from people across our state and nation, Mr. Reid received over 4,500 cards.
"One of the greatest responsibilities we have as citizens is to remember and be thankful for the bravery and sacrifices of the men and women who have served this great nation," said Commissioner Buckingham. "The support Mr. Reid has received from his community and beyond is an amazing demonstration of the unwavering gratitude we have for our Veterans. I would also like to thank the staff of the Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home who helped make Mr. Reid's special celebration possible."
Mr. Reid celebrated this major milestone with a party at the Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home (TSVH) with his fellow Veterans. The party included refreshments, pizza, and a large birthday cake, all donated for the enjoyment of Mr. Reid and other TSVH residents.
