The Veterans Land Board (VLB), a division of the Texas General Land Office, was created in 1946 to administer benefits exclusively for Texas Veterans. Since then, more than 200,000 VLB loans have been funded for Texas veterans. For over half a century, the VLB has been keeping the promise to serve Texas veterans through land, home and home improvement loans. The VLB operates four Texas State Veterans Cemeteries, conveniently located across the state. These Texas State Veterans Cemeteries are hallowed grounds that are an expression of our respect for the Texas men and women who have served our nation with honor. The VLB also operates eight Texas State Veterans Homes; providing affordable, long-term nursing care for Texas veterans, their spouses and Gold Star parents.

Commissioner Bush served in the U.S. Navy, including a tour in Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom. Having seen the devastating effect of post-traumatic stress on our veterans, Commissioner Bush initiated a first of its kind program in all eight of the VLB operated Texas State Veterans Homes to better identify and treat PTS, ensuring that Texas will be serving the next generation of men and women who have fought for this country. Commissioner Bush believes it is these efforts that will help Texas continue to be the best state in the nation for not just current veterans, but also for the next generation of soldier, sailor and airman.
