Commissioner George P. Bush statement on approval of "Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation," or WIIN, Act

AUSTIN - Today Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush issued the following statement in response to the President signing the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act, which contains a provision authored by U.S. Sen. John Cornyn requiring the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to take into consideration the findings from the Storm Surge Suppression Study conducted by the Gulf Coast Community Protection and Recovery District (GCCPRD) while developing its Coastal Texas Protection and Restoration Feasibility Study (Corps Study):

"Millions of Texans live and work along the coast and protecting this vital resource is important to our statewide economy. The potential for loss of life, homes and personal property - not to mention the hundreds of billions of dollars of damage to the national economy that could be the result of a significant storm - should make this a top priority for all Americans. The time has come to get serious about investing in coastal protection in Texas and the passage of this legislation will go a long way towards expediting critical studies and cutting federal red tape. I would like to thank Senator John Cornyn and Representatives Brian Babin and Randy Weber for their leadership on this critical issue and their continued partnership in prioritizing coastal protection for all Texans."
