“Throughout her distinguished career Hadassah Schloss has demonstrated a commitment to upholding the highest standards of transparency within the people’s government,” said Commissioner Bush. “I am proud to announce she will now lead the GLO’s standard development and employee training to ensure that the efforts of the Texas General Land Office are open and transparent to all those we represent and serve.”
Before working for the GLO, Schloss was the Cost Rules Administrator at the Office of the Attorney General, where she handled complaints relating to open records requests, provided open records training for a variety of governmental entities across the state and participated in seminars on open government issues. Schloss started her career in open records in 1990 at the agency which is now known as the Texas Facilities Commission.
Schloss has received numerous accolades for her commitment to increasing transparency in government. In 2012 she was awarded the Freedom Fighter Medal from the Baylor University School of Journalism. In 2006 Schloss was presented with the Open Doors Award by the Fort Worth Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. Additionally she received the 1996 James Madison Award from the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas. Schloss holds a BBA in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin.
