SAVE THE DATE: Land Commissioner Buckingham Encourages Texans to Attend the Save Texas History Symposium

AUSTIN, Texas— Today, Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D., encouraged Texans to attend the Save Texas History (STH) Symposium on November 7-8, 2025, at the Bullock Texas State History Museum in downtown Austin, Texas, for two days of cutting-edge historical research on Texas.

This year’s symposium shares its theme with the Texas General Land Office's (GLO) recently published book, Texas Takes Shape: A History in Maps from the General Land Office (UT Press, 2025).

Texas Takes Shape

On Friday, November 7, meet the next generation of Texas historians at our Student Research Showcase, featuring undergraduate and graduate students from seven different Texas universities. Learn more about the making of Texas Takes Shape with its authors during an optional Friday evening reception. Speakers on Saturday, November 8, will present on topics aligned with the nine chapters of the book.

Created in 2004, the Save Texas History Program is a statewide initiative to rally public support and private funding for the preservation and promotion of the historic maps and documents housed in the GLO Archives.
