Ussery Roan Texas State Veterans Home will be hosting an event to celebrate National Medal of Honor day.
Ussery Roan is excited to host the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum as they bring Charles Roan's Congressional Medal of Honor to the facility. This is the first time Mr. Roan's Medal of Honor will have a presence in the State Veterans Home in which is named after him. Mr. Don Sherman and Mr. Kevin Black from the American Legion in Claude Texas, home of Charles Roan, will give a brief history lesson about Mr. Roan and how he earned his Medal of Honor. A reception will follow.
The community is invited to join us for this special celebration.
Born in August of 1923, Charles Roan served in the United States Marine Corps from 1942-1944. During his service, Roan sacrificed his life to save four fellow Marines in the landing on Peleliu during World War II. He was awarded our nation’s highest military honor, the Medal of Honor.
Media is welcome and we ask that you RSVP so that we can facilitate your coverage of the event.
