Vietnam Veterans Day Recreation and Performance

On Friday, March 29th, the Frank M. TejedaTexas State Veterans Home will host a Vietnam Veterans Day event at 1:30 p.m. including a performance by ReCreation at 2 p.m. The community is invited to join the Frank M. Tejeda Veterans Home as we celebrate our Texas Veterans who honorably served in Vietnam. The event will kick off with a “Welcome Home” speech from Daniel Medrano, former president of the Vietnam Veterans Association from 2006 to 2014. Read More


Unaccompanied Veteran Burial to be held at Rio Grande Valley Texas State Veterans Cemetery

Today, Texas Veterans Land Board Chairman George P. Bush announced that TODAY Friday, March 15th, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. SHARP, the Rio Grande Valley Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Mission, Texas will conduct an Unaccompanied Veteran burial for Specialist James Sabatke. Born in March of 1960, Sabatke served as a United States Army Veteran from 1977 to 1985 as an Attack Helicopter Repair Specialist.Sabatke is not expected to have anyone attend his funeral, as no next-of-kin are able to attend. K-9 Veterans Day

On March 13th, the Texas Veterans Land Board will celebrateK-9 Veterans Day. We are excited to invite the community to join us at the Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home to partake in festivities. This event is a great opportunity for the community to come together with their K-9 and celebrate with our Veterans. Texas State Veterans Home Visits Berkner High School Junior ROTC Group Service Learning Project

On February 15, 2019 the Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veterans Home located in Bonham, Texas had the opportunity to attend the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps service learning project at Berkner High School.The Berkner High School Junior ROTC group invited our Veteran residents of Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veterans Home to enjoy a presentation of their service learning project. Cadets of Berkner High School JROTC provided guided tours of the Military Heritage Collection of North Texas as well as a picnic style lunch for the veterans. Read More

VLB to host Texas Veterans Benefits Fair in Corpus Christi on March 16th

A free “come and go” benefits fair for Texas veterans will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2019, at the Corpus Christi VA Outpatient Clinic. The fair, targeting all area veterans, military members and their families, is one of several held throughout the state in 2019. Officials from the Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) will be on hand to provide information on state programs including land, home and home improvement loans, as well as Texas State Veterans Homes and Cemeteries for veterans and military members in Texas. 100th Birthday Celebration for Leola Shamburger

On Wednesday, February 6th, the Watkins-Logan Texas State Veterans Home will host a 100th birthday party at 5:30pm for one of their residents, Mrs. Leola Shamburger.In 2013, Mrs. Shamburger moved into Watkins-Logan Texas State Veterans Home after the passing of her husband, US Army Staff Sargent Thomas Jefferson (T.J.) and became a matriarch immediately.
