MEDIA ADVISORY: SCULPTURE UNVEILING CEREMONY
The Alfredo Gonzales Texas State Veterans Home announced plans to celebrate Independence Day with the unveiling ceremony of an Iwo Jima Raising the Flag sculpture. This intricate piece was carved out of wood six years ago by Harry James, a 101 year-old Navy veteran, and was donated to the State Veterans Home. The hand carved figure will be displayed in a glass case in the Alfredo Gonzales Texas State Veterans Home lobby. VLB to host Texas Veterans Benefits Fair in Lubbock on July 13th
LUBBOCK - A free “come and go” benefits fair for Texas Veterans will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2019, at the Lubbock VA Outpatient Clinic. The fair, targeting all area Veterans, military members and their families, is one of several held throughout the state in 2019. Officials from the Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) will be on hand to provide information on state programs including land, home and home improvement loans, as well as Texas State Veterans Homes and Cemeteries for Veterans and military members in Texas. Bush announced that on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. SHARP, the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery will conduct an Unaccompanied Veteran burial for SP4. Thomas Joe Quinn. Born in January of 1944, Thomas Joe Quinn served in the United States Army from 1962 - 1965. Quinn has received the following awards: Good Conduct Medal; Expert Badge (M-14 Rifle).Quinn is not expected to have anyone attend his funeral. Born in July of 1952, James Leon Rimmer served in the United States Marine Corps from 1972 - 1987.Rimmer is not expected to have anyone attend his funeral. The Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veterans Home is hosting a Memorial Day event, Monday, May 27th, honoring those who gave their lives for our country while on active duty. The community is invited to join the home for a special Memorial Day ceremony. Dr. Diego Restrepo, who has served in the United States Army from 1990 - present will deliver remarks.
