Texas General Land Office, Industry Leaders Usher in New Era of Carbon Sequestration Near Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY – The Texas General Land Office (GLO) recently awarded a first of its kind carbon sequestration project that will allow for offshore storage of carbon dioxide (CO2) in submerged lands near Jefferson County, near Port Arthur. By storing CO2, a byproduct generated from industrial activity and power generation, the GLO will help meet market-driven decarbonization goals while raising money for the Permanent School Fund. Cmr. George P. Bush Announces New Coastal Partnership for Carbon Sequestration

CORPUS CHRISTI - Today, Texas General Land Commissioner, George P. Bush announced a new agreement with the Port of Corpus Christi to develop infrastructure that captures carbon dioxide produced during oil and natural gas development. The two governmental bodies have executed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) stating their intention to co-develop a carbon dioxide (CO2) storage solution in the Coastal Bend for CO2 captured in the Port of Corpus Christi area. Commissioner Bush Launches Suit Against Biden Administration to Build the Wall

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced a lawsuit against the Biden Administration as a part of the Texas Defense Task Force. Filed in the Southern Texas District Federal Court, McAllen Division, the lawsuit sues President Biden and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas on grounds of illegally preventing the border wall from being constructed. Texas General Land Office Celebrates Signing of SB 1160

Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 1160 into law yesterday which will create a Gulf Coast Protection District. This district will be authorized to receive and issue funds for future coastal projects identified in the Coastal Texas Protection and Restoration Feasibility Study. The “Coastal Texas Study,” as it is commonly called, is a 6-year, $20.6 million comprehensive study led by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) in partnership with the Texas General Land Office. GALVESTON TO BEGIN NOURISHMENT PROJECT AT BABE'S BEACH

This summer, Galveston Island’s Babe’s Beach, west of 61st Street, is getting a new round of fresh sand. The Galveston Park Board of Trustees, the City of Galveston, the Texas General Land Office (GLO), and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) are partnering on Babe’s Beach in an ongoing effort to maintain and protect Galveston’s beaches--at no additional cost to residents. The replenishment of Babe’s Beach, which begins west of 61st Street, is scheduled to start this summer. LAND OFFICE ANNOUNCES $10.6 MILLION IN GRANTS FOR COASTAL PROTECTION PROJECTS

Today, the Texas General Land Office announced 30 projects will receive funding under the Texas Coastal Management Program (CMP) Grant Cycle 26. Nineteen projects, approximating $2 million in federal funds, will improve the management of the state's coastal resources and ensure the long-term ecological and economic productivity of the coast using National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) funds. VOLUNTEERS COLLECT MORE THAN 23,000 POUNDS OF TRASH AT THE ADOPT-A-BEACH 2021 COASTWIDE SPRING CLEANUP

Volunteers from all over Texas participated in the Adopt-A-Beach 2021 Coastwide Spring Cleanup that took place on April 17, 2021.
