Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush visited three local Houston Schools – Spillane Middle School, Highland Heights Elementary School and Lanier Middle School as part of his 'Year of Education' Initiative. These three local Houston schools made for the last three stops out of fifty of his education visits for the year. NOW ACCEPTING ENTRIES: 2020 TREASURES OF THE TEXAS COAST CHILDREN'S ART CONTEST
Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced that the 2020 Treasures of the Texas Coast Children's Art Contest is now open for entries. Artwork should be based on the theme “Treasures of the Texas Coast” and depict why the Texas coast is important or special to the participating student. Yesterday, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush visited Boerne Middle School North in Boerne, Texas as part of his 'Year of Education' Initiative. During his visit, Commissioner Bush taught an interactive Texas history lesson using reproductions of one of Stephen F. Austin’s original maps from the Texas General Land Office archives. CMR BUSH ANNOUNCES RESULTS OF ARANSAS COUNTY VESSEL TURN-IN PROGRAM EVENT
Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the results of the Vessel Turn-In program offered recently in Aransas County, Texas.The total number of vessels turned in from Aransas County, Texas tallied 31 vessels and 12 boat trailers bringing a total of 130 gallons of fuel/oil collected. The fuel/oil was properly disposed. To date, the General Land Office has collected 742 vessels, 1236 gallons of fuel/oil waste, and 73 boat trailers coastwide since the program’s inception. Read More

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush visited Rapoport Academy - Quinn Middle School in Waco, Texas as part of his 'Year of Education' Initiative. During his visit, Commissioner Bush received an up-close and personal look at Rapoport Academy’s state-of-the-art programs. Rapoport Academy’s Meyer High School partners with Connally High School to provide a "Triple Win Apprenticeship" program focused on workforce readiness. UPCOMING ARANSAS COUNTY VESSEL TURN-IN PROGRAM
The Texas General Land Office (GLO) is partnering with Aransas County and Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) and Keep Aransas County Beautiful (KACB) to offer Aransas County Texans the opportunity to remove inoperable and derelict vessels through the Vessel Turn-In Program (VTIP) free of charge. Designed to provide owners with a voluntary method of disposal, interested boat owners are encouraged to participate if the vessel is less than 26 feet long, with longer boats being accepted on a case by case basis.
