Commissioner Bush Announces Save Texas History Program Fundraising Campaign

Commissioner George P. Bush today announced the beginning of a month-long Save Texas History program campaign to help raise awareness and funds for historic document preservation.“Our history is at risk of being lost forever,” said Commissioner Bush. More than 6,700 volunteers pick up 110,000 lbs of trash from Texas beaches during Spring Adopt-A-Beach Cleanup

The results for Saturday’s 30th annual Spring Adopt-A-Beach Cleanup by the Texas General Land Office are in. Unfortunately wet weather conditions resulted in the cancellation of four sites, but 6,757 volunteers showed up at 27 locations to remove 110,663 pounds of trash from 151 miles of Texas coastline. The rain cleared in time giving volunteers a sunny but cool day to enjoy the beautiful Texas coast!Since 1986, more than 496,000 Adopt-A-Beach volunteers have cleaned more than 9,200 tons of trash from Texas beaches. Commissioner Bush announces GLO efforts to remove dangerous derelict structures along the Texas coast

Today Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced a groundbreaking effort by the Texas General Land Office (GLO) to secure funds necessary to remove dangerous derelict structures along the Texas coast. Commissioner Bush announced that the GLO submitted an application for grant funding under the Direct Component of the federal RESTORE Act seeking $6.9 million dollars for structure removal. Cameron County Parks and Recreation's Andy Bowie Park Adopt-A-Beach site to be dedicated to Monica Vela

Today Commissioner George P. Bush announced that the Cameron County Park Adopt-A-Beach site will be dedicated in honor of Monica Vela who served as the site's coordinator for 23 years.Monica C. Vela, a resident of Port Isabel, passed away at home with her family on Friday, Aug. 14, 2015. She married Pedro Vela, Sr., and together they raised two children, Pedro, Jr., and Paul. Monica dedicated her life to her community and volunteered in several capacities, including serving as an Adopt-A-Beach site coordinator at Cameron County Park beaches for 23 years on South Padre Island. VLB to host Texas Veterans Benefits Fair in El Paso on April 23rd

A free “come and go” benefits fair for Texas veterans will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Saturday, April 23, at the El Paso Community College Administrative Service Center. The fair, targeting all area veterans, is one of many planned throughout the state in 2016. Officials from the Texas Veterans Land Board will be on hand to provide information on state programs including land, housing and home improvement loans as well as Texas state veterans' cemeteries and nursing homes for veterans. Teresa So, a 5th grader from Walker Station Elementary in Sugar Land, Texas, is the grand prize winner of the 2016 Texas General Land Office Adopt-A-Beach Treasures of the Texas Coast Children’s Art Contest. Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush selected Teresa’s art from more than 5,000 entries submitted statewide.
