Today Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D. announced that the Texas General Land Office (GLO) and Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) teams are monitoring Beryl, currently a tropical storm, and coordinating readiness measures with Texas State Veterans Homes and Cemeteries in the path of the storm. With storm conditions anticipated to affect the Richard A. Anderson and Alfredo Gonzalez Texas State Veterans Homes in Houston and McAllen respectively, as well as the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi, VLB staff has initiated emergency action plan procedures. Commissioner Buckingham Announces VA Grant of $9.5 Million to Establish a New Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Lubbock
AUSTIN—Today, Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D. announced that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) plans to award the Texas General Land Office (GLO) a grant totaling up to $9.5 million for the establishment of a new Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Lubbock, Texas. The grant will be used to establish the cemetery including pre-placed crypts, columbarium niches, in ground cremated remain plots, irrigation, grading, drainage, landscaping, roads, administration buildings, maintenance yard, committal shelter and supporting infrastructure. Today, Dr. Dawn Buckingham was sworn in as the 29th Commissioner of the Texas General Land Office (GLO), making history as the first woman to hold this office in Texas.
