Tullis was an agent for the Texas and Indiana Mutual Exchange Colonization and Immigration Bureau.

Western, Thomas

Thomas Western arrived in Texas in 1831 and served as an officer in the Texas Army (1835-1837), in the Texas Rangers (1838-1839), as the first spanish translator of the Texas General Land Office (also 1838-1839), and superintendent of Indian Affairs (1841-1846).

The Western Papers consist of documents regarding Western's administration of the Caleb Bennett estate. [G AB2/45]

12. Willie, Asa.
Letter, 1857.

Asa Willie (1829-1899) served in the Confederate Army as a major, was elected associate judge of the Texas Supreme Court in 1866, served in Congress (1873-1875), city attorney of Galveston (1875-1876), and chief justice of the Texas Supreme Court (1882-1888).

At the time of this letter, Willie was working in the office of his brother, James Willie, then attorney general. [AB2/29]

Mathew M. Young was an attorney in Monroe County, Tennessee and St. Louis, Missouri. Among his interests were extensive land investments in Texas. The Young papers includes a large collection of Civil War claims against the U.S. government. Letters, documents. 2 linear inches. (Note: currently unprocessed)
