Advancement of Senate Bill 503 - Willacy SWCD

Summary

The primary task was the development and implementation of Water Quality Management Plans (WQMPs) in the Coastal Zone Area of Willacy County.  This provided agricultural producers who seek participation with the opportunity to comply with state water quality laws through a voluntary, incentive-based approach.   Technical and financial assistance enabled producers to implement various best management practices that address erosion and sediment control, nutrient management, irrigation water management and livestock grazing.   Best management practices included irrigation landleveling, irrigation pipeline, nutrient management, subsurface drain systems, pasture planting, crossfencing and livestock watering facilities.
