Bacteria Source Tracking in Copano Bay - Phase I

Summary

The Texas Department of Health (TDH) and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality determined the source of bacterial contamination and where the contamination originated in Copano Bay.  TDH used this data to begin reviewing changes in oyster harvesting rules and a Total Maximum Dalily Load (TMDL) was developed. TDH collected samples at 14 stations with the opening of oyster harvesting season and the Center for Coastal Studies at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi performed the testing.
