Boater Waste Education Campaign

Summary

The Galveston Bay Foundation (GBF) will continue the Boater Waste Education Campaign (BWEC). GBF will maintain previously developed efforts including: marketing and advertising efforts to spread the BWEC message; the Clean Water Partnership program that helps marina staff and boaters work together to carry out BWEC projects and workshops; as well as GBF’s Water Monitoring Team, Dockwalkers, AquaKids Classes, and the College Research Experience. GBF will continue to refine the BWEC based on lessons learned and track program improvements. GBF will make improvements to the Galveston Bay Action Network mobile app that facilitates public environmental reporting, continue to quantify the potential impact that boater waste contributes to overall bacteria levels in Galveston Bay, continue to expand the BWEC to include communication with the commercial boating industry, and continue to address language barriers through educational outreach.
