Summary
The Texas coastal zone has critical economic value to the state's and national economy relative to oil and natural gas deposits and facilities, significant tourist value, as well as its diverse ecological habitats.The Texas coastline comprises of over 367 miles of open Gulf shoreline and over 1,100 miles of bay-estuary-lagoon shorelines. A scenic quality assessment for both natural and modified coastlines have been undertaken, both to establish a baseline of quantitative scenic resource quality and means to utilize these values in mangement with other environmental variables.
