Galveston Bay Foundation Oyster Shell Recycling Program & Citizen Science

Project Description

Project will allow GBF to continue overseeing the shell recycling operations of the Oyster Shell Recycling Program. GBF staff will maintain shell recycling partnerships and proposes to increase community engagement by recruiting additional restaurant partners and continuing two citizen science programs: oyster gardening and reef monitoring. GBF staff will facilitate weekly collection of oyster shell from participating restaurants and partners. Additionally, 4–6 dedicated volunteers will collect weekly water quality data to support recruitment analysis. By pairing oyster gardening data with water quality measurements, GBF will evaluate recruitment across the bay.
