Hurricane Harvey FEMA Repairs Setting a Precedent at Babe’s Beach

Summary

The purpose of the project is to implement FEMA repairs to restore the damages caused by Hurricane Harvey in 2017 to restore 101,387 yds of beach quality sand. Prior to Hurricane Harvey, the Babe’s Beach area was created by the placement of beach quality sand through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Beneficial Use of Dredged Material (BUDM) Program dredged from the Houston-Galveston Ship Channel. This original BUDM placement resulted in the re-emergence of the entire Babe’s Beach area west of 61st street, extending to 75th street.
