Magnolia Marsh Feasibility Study and Alternatives Analysis Project

Project Description

The Magnolia Marsh, located to the west of Magnolia Beach in Calhoun County. It is a large complex of saltwater marshes which provides habitat fish, crabs and birds. The Magnolia Inlet is the primary tidal inlet between Lavaca Bay and Old Town Lake. It is undersized and as a result tends towards sedimentation and closure. The closure of this inlet would cause erosion of the interior wetlands, hypersaline conditions and weaken the resilience of the region. This project is in its first phase, feasibility study and alternative analysis to determine the best course of action to ensure the hydrodynamic conductivity for the salt marsh and provide a more stabilized shoreline in the region.
