Matagorda Beach Access Mats

The entrance to Matagorda Beach is narrow and the sand is deep. Frequently, beachgoers trying to access the beach via car get stuck in the sand and block access for other drivers. Vehicles stuck at the entrance have caused emergency vehicle delays over the last several years. Alternatively, drivers who speed through this entrance to avoid getting stuck pose a danger for people accessing the beach on foot.Matagorda County will purchase 90 oilfield mats and install them at the entrance to Matagorda Beach. County will use county equipment to install the mats and will inspect the mats after their placement. Weather will be monitored, the County will remove the mats prior to a disaster and store them safely in a Matagorda County storage unit.
