Summary
This project produced detailed status and trends information on wetlands on coastal barrier islands of the upper Texas coast and on seagrasses in Texas upper coast bays and estuaries. Results of these studies improved understanding of wetland changes on Texas barrier islands and seagrass changes in Texas bays and estuaries and pinpointed wetlands and seagrasses threatened by development, erosion, subsidence, and other processes. The information provided for new or revised coastal land acquisition, management, and restoration programs and may also lead to revising policies or regulations to protect, preserve, or restore those wetlands that are most threatened.
