About the Texas Disaster Information System (TDIS)
The Texas Disaster Information System (TDIS) is a centralized, interactive platform that helps Texas better prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural disasters. Developed by Texas A&M University’s Institute for a Disaster Resilient Texas (IDRT) in partnership with the Texas General Land Office (GLO), TDIS addresses the long-standing challenge of fragmented and inaccessible disaster-related data across the state.
A Comprehensive Data Platform
TDIS collects, analyzes, stores, and delivers natural hazard data through a dynamic online system. The platform features advanced decision support tools and applications designed for a range of users—including state and local planners, emergency managers, researchers, and the general public.
By bringing together data from across agencies and disciplines, TDIS supports informed decision-making around preparedness, response, recovery, and long-term mitigation. It aims to play a key role in helping Texas respond to life-threatening and costly disasters such as flooding, drought, and wildfires.
Promoting Texas Resilience
TDIS will enhance disaster planning and resilience by:
- Making natural hazard data accessible and easy to use
- Supporting coordination across state and local agencies
- Equipping all Texans with tools to understand and reduce disaster risk
Its suite of decision support applications will help users visualize and interpret data, assess risk, and make better recovery and mitigation decisions.
Strategic Partnerships
The GLO is providing funding to design, implement, and maintain TDIS through 2027. In parallel, the GLO is leading the Combined River Basin Flood Studies, which provides detailed flood risk data for counties impacted by Hurricane Harvey and the severe 2015 flooding. TDIS will serve as the home for this critical information.
Other state agencies, including the Texas Water Development Board and the Texas Division of Emergency Management, are also contributing data and collaborating with TDIS to expand access to natural hazard information across Texas.
