On Tuesday, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush will be visiting Liberty ISD’s treasured “Bookmobile,” along with Liberty Middle School and Liberty Elementary School as a part of his Year of Education initiative.

During his visit, Commissioner Bush will tour the interactive, traveling library that offers children a fun way to get excited about reading. At the middle and elementary schools, Commissioner Bush will teach an interactive Texas History Map lesson on cotton, cattle and railways using replicas of restored maps from the General Land Office Archives. As a special surprise at the end of the lesson, students will be invited to hold a piece of Texas history, a cannonball that was found inside a restored Alamo cannon. Commissioner Bush will also learn about Liberty Middle School’s “Capturing Kid’s Heart” program that equips teachers to cultivate healthy relationships with students and build student’s trust, responsibility, empathy for diverse cultures, and other core emotional intelligence skills.

Earlier this year, Commissioner Bush dedicated 2019 to having a “conversation with the future,” engaging with school children and teachers across the state. As a former school teacher, Commissioner Bush understands first-hand the impact education has on our students. He has noted that it’s not only important to support our Texas school districts but to also connect with them. Commissioner Bush is excited to meet the students, teachers and leaders at Liberty ISD as he travels across the state and personally teaches Texas History to the future leaders of Texas.
