Commissioner Buckingham Announces The “I Saved Texas History” Fundraising Campaign

Today, Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D. is pleased to announce the “I Saved Texas History” fundraising campaign on behalf of the Save Texas History Program at the Texas General Land Office.

Throughout the month of May, anyone who donates $30 or more through   SaveTexasHistory.org  will receive a limited edition “I Saved Texas History” T-Shirt, which features custom artwork that highlights an important part of Texas history—cowboys and cattle trails. 

“When I walk through the General Land Office Archives and Records, I see historic documents that   Stephen F. Austin  and   Sam Houston  used to help settle the Old 300 in   Austin’s Colony  and to promote the brave men who fought at   San Jacinto, respectively. I see land certificates awarded to the heroes who gave their lives at the   Alamo  in the name of freedom from tyranny. I see maps that shaped Texas and how the world perceives it, and more importantly, how we perceive it,” said Commissioner Buckingham. “These records inspire and define what it means to be Texan and is a reminder that Texas history starts here. I am asking all Texans to heed the call and help us save Texas History by donating at SaveTexasHistory.org today.”

Created in 2004, the Save Texas History program is a statewide initiative to rally public support and private funding for preserving and promoting the historic maps and documents housed in the GLO Archives.
