Magnolia and Indianola Beach Pavilions

Summary

Calhoun County will construct two pavilions for public use in the Miller Point area with the goal of encouraging ecotourism and outdoor education. Use of the pavilions will be free of charge. A 100'x50' general-use pavilion will be built at least 300’ from the water and a 25’ hexagonal pavilion will be constructed near Indianola beach. Educational signage will be placed near these pavilions to highlight the area's significant history and ecology. The Calhoun County Museum will collaborate on historical signage; Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) will collaborate on information on local birds and wildlife. Both pavilions will be Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant. Additionally, the County will install bollards and a gravel parking lot to allow access to the pavilions.

These pavilions are near the Alamo-Magnolia-Indianola Kayak Trail, the historical La Salle Monument, the popular birding site "Magic Ridge" and other sites on the Texas Coastal Birding Trail. The County hopes this project will bring additional visitors throughout the year and provide local educators with an additional area to conduct educational and scientific outings.
