Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge Shoreline Protection

Summary

This project will result in the construction of rock breakwaters along the GIWW shoreline. The structures
will reduce wave energy and will prevent shoreline erosion. Based on observations of past rock breakwater projects on the GIWW, it is anticipated that marsh vegetation will establish on the shoreline behind the breakwater and sediment will accrue over time. Stabilization of the GIWW shoreline will prevent degradation of adjacent coastal marsh habitats associated with erosion.
